BOSTON (AP) — Penguins forward Marian Hossa, acquired at the trade deadline from the Atlanta Thrashers, injured his knee in his first game for Pittsburgh and sat out the third period of the game against the Boston Bruins.
Hossa was acquired Tuesday along with forward Pascal Dupuis for forwards Colby Armstrong and Erik Christensen, a top prospect and a first-round draft pick.
A five-time All-Star right wing, Hossa has 26 goals and 30 assists in 60 games after tying for sixth in the NHL with 100 points last season.
The NHL’s Stanley Cup contenders took their best shot at glory and pulled the trigger on some big trades this week, while Reebok Canada launched a breakaway move of its own with a new Reebok SC87 collection that’s certain to go top shelf in the gym or on the street.
Featuring a balance of performance and lifestyle apparel, shoes and some of the latest technological advancements, the new Sidney Crosby signature series builds on the success and popularity of last season’s line-up and offers fans and active Canadians leading-edge functionality, comfort and style. No, no-one got ran over by the Zamboni, this is what happens when the Zamboni transmission fails.
As you can see, it got to center ice and started spitting out giant gobs of transmission fluid. It was able to back up under its own power (making a giant red streak all the way), but they had to delay the game for 15 minutes, and make do with one Zamboni for the rest of the game. They didn’t do any of the usual promos during the intermissions, presumably because it took twice as long to clean the ice with only one Zamboni.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins, desperate to add another scorer to Sidney Crosby’s line, acquired forward Marian Hossa from Atlanta in a trade Tuesday that sent forwards Colby Armstrong and Eric Christensen to the Thrashers.
With Toronto’s Mats Sundin off the market after refusing to waive his no-trade clause, Hossa was the biggest name available at the trade deadline. Hossa is a five-time All-Star right wing who has 26 goals and 30 assists in 60 games this season after finishing tied for sixth in the NHL with 100 points last season.
The Penguins paid a big price to get a player who will become a free agent on July 1, dealing two of their top forwards, plus 2007 first-round draft pick Angelo Esposito and a future first-round draft pick. Pittsburgh also gets forward Pascal Dupuis, a right wing who has 10 goals and five assists in 62 games. Full Story…
Are you ready for a long playoff run?
It’s beginning to look more and more like the Penguins may live up to those lofty predictions that were made about them last September. Remember all the publications that picked them to win the Stanley Cup?
Those predictions didn’t look so good three months ago. On Nov. 21, the Penguins were 7-11-2 and playing one of the two hottest teams in the league, the Ottawa Senators, in Ottawa. They won that game 6-5 in a shootout and, since then, coming into this weekend, they were 27-10-3. Full Story…
Sidney Crosby did not practice with the Penguins yesterday, nor did he skate on his own. But the team stressed that there has been no setback to his recovery from a high right ankle sprain and that he remains within the original 6-to-8 week prognosis for a return. “Right now, it’s part of the rehab,” Penguins coach Michel Therrien said. Sidney Crosby is the new face of the NHL. I’ve heard that phrase so many times it now haunts me in my dreams.
But I have a few reservations.
For years everyone has been pondering how to improve the on ice product of the NHL. But what makes us think there is something wrong with the game?
I love it. Everyone I know who follows hockey loves it. Full Story…
Despite his optimism, Crosby was adamant that he has not set a specific game for which he hopes to return.
“If I told you the dates, I probably would have given you eight different dates by now,” he said. “Every day, it changes. You feel good one day, and all of a sudden, you think you’ll be back tomorrow, and the next day, you realize it still needs time.”
The decision on when he will play again, Crosby added, will be made mostly by him, mostly for practical reasons. For while doctors and the medical staff can evaluate the strength and stability of his leg, only he can know precisely how it feels. Full Story…
He joined practice without the non-contact look. It was another move forward in his recovery from a high ankle sprain.
“[It was] kind of a step to see how it went,” said Crosby, who got hurt Jan. 18.
“It went pretty good. It’s still something we’ve got to work through a bit.”
Crosby, who skated hard by himself Friday while the team was off, did the same with his teammates and participated in all the drills. Team physician Charles Burke watched Crosby through the workout. Full Story…
